The Mississippi sports wagering scene experienced a minor downturn in January, with gamblers placing $66.5 million in bets, a small decrease compared to the previous year. Although this figure was slightly lower than the prior year, it still represented a positive month for the state, showing a 17.1% increase from December.
The state’s income also witnessed a decline, dropping from $9.1 million to $6.5 million. However, this figure was still more than twice the revenue generated in December.
Coastal gambling establishments were the most popular destinations for sports betting in January, recording a total handle of $45.7 million. Football reigned supreme as the most favored sport, followed by basketball. Baseball wagering was quite low, while parlay bets were robust.
Northern casinos saw a handle of $10.9 million, with football emerging as the most popular sport. Central casinos had the lowest handle, but generated the highest revenue.
Basketing is the most favored pastime at Central Casino, with wagers reaching a staggering $24 million, outpacing football’s $19 million. Combined bets hit a remarkable $55 million.
