**African Online Gaming Index**
H2 Gaming Capital and iGaming Business are pleased to present this African Online Gaming Index, a part of our recent Africa Focus 2018.
It monitors the growth of the African online gaming sector since 2003 and projects to 2022.
The disparities in the African region are striking compared to the global online gaming index released monthly by H2 and iGB.
While overall online gaming expansion, particularly mobile growth, exhibits a clear upward trend, the graphs depicting the proportion of the market share that is authorized are more challenging to decipher.
The African market significantly lags behind the global market in terms of regulated markets, with approximately 40% of online gaming being authorized compared to about 60% globally. However, the pattern reveals regular fluctuations, rather than the clear upward trend observed globally.
This is likely due to gambling regulators in African nations being prone to introducing poorly considered regulations and tax systems, leading to previously authorized markets becoming grey as existing operators withdraw.
For instance, the Kenyan government last year announced a 35% tax on gambling operators, which many considered impractical and stated would significantly impact the currently strongest online gaming market in Africa.
The African continent distinguishes itself from other areas when it comes to favored gambling pursuits. Soccer is immensely popular on the landmass, making wagering on sports the undisputed champion. However, unlike other locations, casinos haven’t truly gained traction in Africa. Lotteries are the second most sought-after form of gambling, trailing closely behind betting.
Gambling Capital is a leading group of advisors, market specialists, and data experts in the gambling sector. They’ve been active for nearly 15 years, concentrating on the worldwide gambling industry. Their forecasts have influenced how policymakers and investors globally perceive the gambling enterprise.
